HEDGE TRIMMING AND PRUNING

Always Prepared

Established hedges require trimming to keep them dense and compact. If you want your hedges to look sharp and neat, we provide hedge trimming services as well.

When to Trim Hedges

Formal hedges require more frequent trimming than informal hedges. The key difference between a formal and an informal hedge is how tightly it is clipped. A formal hedge is usually very tightly clipped and kept very neat while an informal hedge has a more natural shape and may only be clipped every year or two to maintain the overall size.

New hedges require formative pruning for their first couple of years after planting. Formative pruning is usually carried out in winter or spring.

After pruning, maintenance trimming is carried out, usually once a year for informal hedges and twice a year for formal hedges. Some formal hedges may need three cuts a year. Maintenance trimming is generally carried out between spring and summer.
